Adelaide visitor Spirited Eagle has been heavily backed to win the C.S Hayes Stakes shortening from $8.00 to $6.00 at Sportingbet Australia.
The gelding has an outstanding record of five wins from eight starts and Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan he was the only punters had wanted in early betting.
“We took one bet of $21,000 to $3000 each way and further bets to win $10,000 and $5000,†Sullivan said.
“His run on Australia Day behind Éclair Mystic was very good and he is unbeaten from two starts on wet tracks.â€
Enjin Number Nine is the clear favourite at $3.65 ahead of Spirited Eagle, Anacheeva and Dusty Star who are all at $6.00.
Sullivan said while Spirited Eagle had been the best backed early, he expected to see money for a number of runners.
“Enjin Number Nine was very impressive winning the Manfred Stakes while Dusty Star’s win Caulfield last week was phenomenal after doing at both ends,†said Sullivan.
“Melbourne’s crop of three year olds appear to be an even bunch and money for any of the other runners would not come as a shock.â€
